Colchester Halloween House

We are really into Halloween at our Colchester, house.

Not only do we decorate our house, we put the trick into "Trick or Treat" on Halloween Night.

We don't scare small children when they come by, but everyone else is fair game.

We have been known to use air cannons, smoke machines, tree stands, jumping spiders, zip line monsters and more.
I won't tell you what we're going to do this year, it would ruin the surprise.

Hiking Day Pond in Colchester Connecticut

(Day Pond Picnic Area)

Day Pond in Colchester CT, is one of the best hikes in the area. If you combine the north loop and the south loop it's about 2.57 miles. Terrain is varied, with a lot of ups and downs. Good boots are recommended. The trails are mostly well marked, but care must be taken. There are several paths, roads and power lines not marked on the map provided by the state.

During the primary hunting season (October - December) it is a good idea to wear fluorescent orange.

Fishing Red Cedar Lake September 22nd

I had a break in my calendar and went fishing this morning. I went to Red Cedar Lake in Lebanon, CT. The early morning was dead calm and the temperature was a comfortable 57 degrees. The lake has definitely gotten colder, but not pain full wading out to launch the kayak. Fishing was not good. By 9 am I had only had a one fish hooked. A small pickerel that got off before I got him to the boat. Then I got a real estate call and decided to go home. Fishing my way back I caught 4 bass. One about 9" and the others were 12-13". Two of the fish were caught on on a Yamamoto Senko and the others on a Yamamoto Creature.

What I Have Learned

When I was first approached about writing on a blog site I had the usual first response, “What do I write about?” I got the usual response, “You’re a Realtor, write what you have learned.” Well I did learn a lot of stuff to get the Realtor’s license and I am still learning every day on how to do the job well. But in 50 years, I’ve learned a lot of other stuff.

I have learned that the danger involved in knocking down a white faced hornets nest is only slightly lessened when you do it at night.

I have learned that when someone says we need to talk, it's going to be a bad day.

I have learned that putting a climbing tree stand on a tree with poison oak can make you sick.

I have learned that putting a climbing tree stand on a smooth barked tree is not a good idea.

I have learned that taking a nap in a tree stand is a very, very bad idea.

I have learned that when a girlfriend says you don’t want to know what’s wrong, you really, really don’t want to know.

I have learned that when your car engine overheats, it is NOT a good idea to open the radiator cap to see if there is any coolant in there.

I have learned that there are some girls you don’t walk away from, you run as fast as you can.

I have learned that it is hard to hold a pickerel and they have a LOT of sharp teeth.

I have learned that you don’t hunt with people who find out if their safety is on, by pulling the trigger.

Bass Fishing Amston Lake September 14th

Between work, coaching soccer and bad weather it has been a while since I went fishing. I didn't plan on going today, but I woke up early this morning and went. I was planning on going to Red Cedar Lake, but that ment I would have to drive by the High School at the same time as the buses arrive. So I decided to go to Amston Lake instead. I caught 4 small bass and one 17" long. Not a lot of fish, but it was a great day to be out in the kayak. I tried a "Ribbit" frog for a couple of hours. I had a couple of hits, but didn't hook anything. Once again, the fish were caught on the Senko.
