Fishing Lake Williams in Lebanon Connecticut

On May 27th I fished Lake Williams, Lebanon CT. I fished from 3:00pm to 8:30pm. The wind was light, must there was a misty rain about 50% of the time and it was about 55-60 degrees. I caught 7 fish and then nothing for a couple of hours. At 8:00pm they started biting again and caught 5 more. I used a lot of worms, creatures and top plugs. About half of the fish were caught on a swimsenko.

Great Fishing at Red Cedar Lake

My son and I went to Red Cedar Lake (Lebanon, CT) today. We got a late start (7am) and fished until 1030. We did pretty good and caught 17 fish. He used crank bait and a top plug. I used a variety of Yamamotos. He caught the first fish, so he gets the good paddle the next time we go fishing. He really liked the top plug, so it looks like I’ll have to buy a couple more of them. Weather conditions were very nice, but the lake was crowded.

Lake Williams May 22

I fished Lake Williams Friday, the 22nd of May. I got to the lake around noon and fished in moderate wind (8-12) wind for about 6 hours. Using Yamamoto Senkos and Swimsenkos I caught 8 pickerel and 12 bass. The biggest bass was about 15” and was caught in a shallow water (10 – 14”) lily pad field. A passing fisherman in a canoe was having getting lots of fish drifting with the wind using crank bait and lures.

Amston Lake

A friend got me onto Amston Lake today, and the fishing was good. I started fishing around noon and it took about an hour to find something they liked. I caught most of the fish on Yamamoto Senkos, fished wacky style. For the first couple of hours I caught pickerels, then mostly bass. I caught 20 fish. I think it was 10 of each. The biggest pickerel was 20” and one bass was 15”. I promised my family that I will quit fishing for the day when I catch 20 fish. It is hard to believe, but they miss me.

Pickeral Lake May 19th

(Shaky Worm)

I went back to Pickerel Lake yesterday. At home there was no wind, but at the lake it was pretty constant 5-10 knots. I fished a combination of shaky worms and sinking minnows to catch 13 bass and 3 pickerel. It was hard fishing, casting into the shoreline, fallen trees and overhanging brush. Especially while trying to hold my kayak in place against the wind. Most of the bass were in the 12-13” range but one 18-19” towed my boat for 50 yards down the shoreline before I finally got him in the kayak.

Norwich Lake

Friday I fished Norwich Lake in Lyme, CT. It is a small lake (30 acres), located in Nehantic State Park. It was real windy (10-15kts) the day I fished, so I had real hard time fishing. Even the anchor couldn’t hold me in place. I was catching small bass and good sized pickerel fishing the weeds along the shore using a top plug and “creature” bait. Just before dark I caught a 17” bass on the top plug. It is about 20 miles away, but I will go back there, hopefully the weather will be better.

Mansfield Hollow Lake

Mansfield Hollow Lake is located in a State Park of the same name in Mansfield, CT. I fished the lower lake yesterday (4 hours) and caught 2 bass. Both were about 12-14” long. I have fished the lake 3 times and caught 2-3 fish each time. Apparently my technique and skills are not compatible with this lake. The lower lake is very attractive with a lot of secluded coves and very deep water. Maybe the lake water hasn’t warmed up enough yet.

Lake Williams

I went to Lake Williams (Lebanon, CT) yesterday. It does not have a boat launch, but has an informal car-top access from the dam on Route 207. It was pretty windy for most of the afternoon, so I had to hug the sheltered shore. When it was cloudy I was catching fish on a blue powerworm. When the sun came out, they wouldn’t hit it. I eventually found a swimsenko the bass liked, the pickerel were hitting my favorite fluke. I fished about 6 hours and caught 15 pickerel and 5 bass.

Real Estate by the Numbers

If you’re reading this Blog I don’t have to tell you how much information is passed over the internet. More people find their home through the internet than all other (newspapers, magazines, friends, signs, family, etc) means, combined. But still, a lot of people selling their houses demand that their Realtor advertise in the newspapers. United States newspaper circulation peaked in 1990, since then the population has increased by an estimated 54 million people. Newspapers have had their day, and will reach some of the market, put they are no longer the number one source. According to “Prudential – Real Estate Marketing 2009 + Beyond”, only 3% of buyers find their house through the newspaper. In 1995 only 2% used the internet to search for a home. By 2007 the number was up to 86%. Most potential buyers (75%) looked at the house on the internet before driving by or viewing the house.

Pickerel Lake

I fished Pickerel Lake (Colchester, CT) this afternoon. The lake is well named, I caught 10 pickerel and 4 bass. The smallest pickerel was about 15”, the biggest was about 30”. All the bass were small, about 9”. I used a small fluke and jigged a swimsenko. I think it is a mostly shallow lake with lots of good cover for the fish. There is a good boat launch, with limited parking.

Uncas Lake

I just fished Uncas Lake in Lyme, CT for the first time. After putting my kayak in the water from the launch I fished the west side of the lake. It started out as a shallow rocky bottom, but soon turned into deep (10’+) water with steep banks. There are some weeds in the lake and a lot of submerged trees from the bank, so I hooked my plastic for weedless. The weather was 60 degrees with a 10-15 mph wind coming across the lake, so the conditions were not ideal. I tried my usual assortment of worms without success. Another fisherman on the lake said that he was going home after catching 2 perch. I changed to fluke bait and slowly started to catch fish. I have only fished fluke a handful of times, but it was what they wanted. From 7 – 8pm I found a fluke and a presentation they liked and caught 5 fish. All told, in about 4 hours I caught 7 largemouth from 9 – 13” long. I like the lake and will go back again. It has clean water, good cover for the fish and no motorboats are allowed on the lake.
