Fishing Pickerel Lake May 2012

Yesterday afternoon I went to Pickerel Lake, it was very crowded. I fished until it was almost dark and there were 6 empty trailers still at the boat launch. I fished for an hour before catching the first fish, but it was worth the wait. The bass weighed 4lbs 12oz. Forty five minutes later I caught another 5lb 14oz fish. After that, they came quicker, but smaller. I ended up with 12 bass, all caught on senkos.

Fishing Memorial Day Weekend 2012

Saturday I went out to Amston Lake. There was a steady breeze from out of the west 5-7mph, but the fish were biting. They were hitting a Zoom Red Shad Ribbontail and Yamamoto Root beer hula grub. In a half day I caught 30 fish, mostly small to medium bass and pickerel. The biggest fish caught were 24" and 18" pickerel. Monday I fished Red Cedar Lake in Lebanon, CT. The weather was perfect, but the fish were not very interested in the stuff I was throwing out there. I only caught 8 small to medium fish in a half day. The highlight of the day was on my way out; I met another fisherman that had visited this blog site. Sorry I didn't get your name. Send me a comment; let me know how you did Monday.

Fishing Red Cedar Lake, May 2012

Went out to Red Cedar Lake in Lebanon, CT. The wind was 5-7mph so it was a little tough to fish, but time is tight, so I fish when I can. From the parking lot/launch I went to the left and caught a couple between the launch and the big house on a senko. But there wasn't much action along the east bank as I kept fishing along the shoreline until I was almost to the second beach. From there down to the end I started picking up fish using a dark hula grub on a jig. As I worked my way back up the lake on the west shore the bites got harder to come by until I hit another hot spot just before the big cove with the association beach. All told, I caught 23 fish mostly largemouth bass with a few pickerel, perch and rock bass. The biggest was 17" long and two other bass were 15" long. Yesterday I went to Lake Williams, also in Lebanon, CT. The wind was stronger than the other day, but the weather was warmer. I was wearing short sleave shirt under my vest for the first time this year. The fish were not biting very well and I had only caught 3 fish by the time I got to the lily pads at the north end of the lake. I took off the senko and jig and put on hula grubs without weight hooked up weed less and fished the weeds. I caught 3 fish in an hour and then moved over to fish behind the island with the camps. It was nice there, because it was out of the wind. Caught 3 fish there including an 8" bull head on a jigged hula. I thought they were bottom eaters, but I've caught them before with grubs. On the way back I hugged the east shore and was able to get out of the wind in a few places and caught a few more. All told I got 15 largemouth, perch, pickerel, bullhead and rock bass. All of the fish were small to average size. So far the fishing at Lake Williams has not been as good as it has for the last couple years, but it is early in the season still.

Coyote Hunting Colchester CT

This week I went out to Babcock WMA coyote hunting. With 1524 acres, there is a lot of area to roam and good way to get out for some exercise. Last year I wasn't able to get out much due to the heavy snow fall, but we all got plenty exercise shoveling. I just got a new electronic call with a remote control from Cabelas. The remote works fine, but I would like more volume out of it. No luck yet, but I'll keep trying.

Deer Hunting Dec 2012 Worthington MA

I went deer hunting with my father in Massachusetts this year. I was fortunate this year, I got a doe permit for Zone 4N. I have a spot there that has produced some good does over the last few years. Every year I have hunted there with a doe permit I have been able to fill it.

This year I got a 130lb doe there. The DEP guy that registered the deer said this was the oldest deer he has seen taken in a few years. She only had one molar left and that was cracked.

The picture below show the stump I hide in when I watch this run.

Colchester Hunting Nov 16

Fishing and soccer season are over and hunting season has begun. I took a course and and missed the turkey season this year. The good news is that my tree stand survived the snow storm. How has the acorn crop been this year? Where I hunt there aren't any acorns, so hopefully we'll have more deer movement this year.

Cochester area fishing w/o August 1

This week I went to Amston Lake, WIlliams Lake, Powers Lake and Red Cedar Lake. At Amston Lake I caught a lot of fish, 24 to be exact, but all were small. Have you noticed that some days it seems like only the big or medium or small fish are biting? On this day t was all the 6 -10 inch fish and a lot of tails bit off the grubs.
The next day I went to Lake Williams and I had a great day with big fish. I caught (4) 2 pound bass and a 4 pound 12 oz largemouth as well. All the big fish were caught in the weeds with senkos and I got a bunch on the way back with spinner bait, all told I landed 21 fish.
Matt and I fished Powers Lake with some success. The lake seem to be the same depth as Williams, without the cover. They don't seem to be very interested in Senkos and we caught almost all the fish on lures and spinners. Matt worked on catching as many sunfish as he could and caught 13 sunfish and small bass. I used bigger bait stuff and caught 10 fish. All mine were small except for a monster bass that hit a crank bait and weighed out at 5 pounds 2 ounces.
On Saturday I had to be home by 10 so I went to Red Cedar Lake. It is small enough for me to fish it well in 3-4 hours. I caught 11 fish with two 2 pound fish. For some reason I am not doing as well this year at Red Cedar. I think it is getting fished pretty heavily this year. I have seen the same groups of fishermen there multiple times during my trips there. So I assume they are fishing there a lot.
