Fishing Amston Lake June 29th

I fished Amston Lake today. The weather went from cloudy and showers to sunny 70 degrees. I started fishing around 6:30 am and caught 20 fish by 11:15am. They were about half pickerel and half largemouth bass with a calico bass thrown into the mix. I had to use a combination of plastic grubs, power worms, diving minnows and shaky worms. All fish were small to average except for one 17” largemouth.

Big Bass at Pickerel Lake, Colchester CT

( Pickerel Lake Boat Launch)

I decided to fish Pickerel Lake in Colchester, CT today. The weather was perfect, 65 degrees and no wind. I did not catch a lot of fish, but I did catch some nice ones. The first two fish I caught were 18-21” pickerel on a swimsenko. The next fish was 15” largemouth, then a 17” bass, another 15” and then a 20” bass took me for a ride. I love it when a big bass pulls my kayak around a lake. I caught another 15 inch bass and then they stopped biting. I ended up catching a couple rock bass, another bass and pickerel. Most of the fish were caught on Yamamoto Senkos

Good June Fishing at Lake Williams, Lebanon CT

Finally got out fishing today, the weather has been so bad lately. I went today even though the forecast was for morning rain. They were right; there was about one hour of drizzle and rain. Lake Williams in Lebanon, CT was my choice today. The fishing was good. It took about six hours to catch 20 fish. Two were pickerel; a bullhead and the rest were bass. One bass was 17”, three were 15” and the rest were 11-13” long. Most were caught on Yamamoto Senkos fished wacky style. I don’t know what that bullhead was thinking!

Fishing Lake Uncas and Norwich Pond

I fished Uncas Lake and Norwich Pond on June 17th. I caught a few (6) small fish along the edge, but nothing in the deeper water. I caught most of the fish on the Berkley minnow grub and lost a big one 19”+ on the swimsenko. I guess I’ll go back to the shallow lakes.

Fishing Lake Haywood

Today I fished Red Cedar Lake (Lebanon, CT) and Lake Haywood (Colchester, CT). I started off at Red Cedar and caught 14 fish, one was 18”, and the rest were small. Most of the fish were caught using a Berkley Gulp Goby fishing the edge of the lake. Most of the fish were under the overhanging tree limbs. I got drenched by a 15 minute downpour that the Weather Channel did not see coming.

I went home, changed my cloths, ate some lunch and rechecked the weather forecast. That’s when I decided to fish Lake Haywood. This was my first trip there this year. It is a big lake, deep, very clean, electric motors only and the weather cleaned up nice with a light breeze. I usually catch 5-6 fish when I fish there, but today I caught 16 fish in 4 hours, mostly on the goby and swimsenko. The bass were all 12-15” but they were very energetic. Every one I hooked jumped out of the water, 4 or 5 jumped and spit the worm out.

Free Fishing In Mass, Vermont and New York State

Sunday, June 7th may son and I went to Massachusetts to fish. Massachusetts, Vermont and New York all have weekends in June that you can fish without having to buy a fishing license. Last weekend was for Mass., Vermont is June 13th/14th and New York is the 27th/28th. I decided to fish for largemouth bass at Littleville Dam on the Middle Branch of the Westfield River. We got there late (about 8am) and the wind really started kicking up at 9am, so we missed the peak fishing time. I haven’t fished here in 20 years, so it took a while to get going, we didn’t catch a fish for 3 hours. We finally found some small bass (8-9”) in a flat area 2-3’ feet deep. We ended up catching 10 fish on my favorite swimsenko.

Saturday, May 30th I fished Lake Williams, Lebanon, CT. I started about 5:30 in the morning and fished to around noon. The morning was overcast and the sun and wind both came out at 09:00. I caught most of the fish before the sun/wind occurred. I caught 7 bass and 3 pickerel on a lot of different soft stuff. No big fish were caught.
