Fishing Red Cedar Lake, May 2012
Went out to Red Cedar Lake in Lebanon, CT. The wind was 5-7mph so it was a little tough to fish, but time is tight, so I fish when I can. From the parking lot/launch I went to the left and caught a couple between the launch and the big house on a senko. But there wasn't much action along the east bank as I kept fishing along the shoreline until I was almost to the second beach. From there down to the end I started picking up fish using a dark hula grub on a jig. As I worked my way back up the lake on the west shore the bites got harder to come by until I hit another hot spot just before the big cove with the association beach. All told, I caught 23 fish mostly largemouth bass with a few pickerel, perch and rock bass. The biggest was 17" long and two other bass were 15" long.
Yesterday I went to Lake Williams, also in Lebanon, CT. The wind was stronger than the other day, but the weather was warmer. I was wearing short sleave shirt under my vest for the first time this year. The fish were not biting very well and I had only caught 3 fish by the time I got to the lily pads at the north end of the lake. I took off the senko and jig and put on hula grubs without weight hooked up weed less and fished the weeds. I caught 3 fish in an hour and then moved over to fish behind the island with the camps. It was nice there, because it was out of the wind. Caught 3 fish there including an 8" bull head on a jigged hula. I thought they were bottom eaters, but I've caught them before with grubs. On the way back I hugged the east shore and was able to get out of the wind in a few places and caught a few more. All told I got 15 largemouth, perch, pickerel, bullhead and rock bass. All of the fish were small to average size. So far the fishing at Lake Williams has not been as good as it has for the last couple years, but it is early in the season still.
